Former reality TV star, Whitney Port, is making her mark in the world with fashion. The former star of the reality televsion show City recently presented her Spring 2012 collection. The experience of becoming a fashion designer has taught her a lot about fashion in general. As she’s made the leap from reality TV star to budding fashion designer, Port’s journey has been instrumental in helping her conquer the fashion world.
The process of designing clothing has taught Port a lot about how clothing is made as well as the costs involved. As a result, she’s become much more careful about how much she spends on new clothing, opting for the occasional splurge on new shoes or handbags because they are fashion staples she knows she’ll wear repeatedly.
Twenty-six year old Port’s collection, titled Whitney Eve, consists of comfortable clothing made with a combination of retro 80s and muted 70s of colors. Port describes her Whitney Eve collection as one that consists of versatility and contemporary style such as menswear inspired garments and convertible party-style dresses.
The fashion designer started her line of clothing in 2008 while still on MTVs “The Hills.” While her fashion may not suit everyone, many celebrities have caught wind of the fun and quirky styles and patterns, such as Paris Hilton who’s been seen wearing Whitney Eve dresses. Other celebrities, such as Heidi Montag, have inquired about Port’s fashion after seeing other celebrities in the eye-catching attire.
During the Fall season of 2011, Port debuted a lower-priced line that helped increase the popularity of her clothing with a greater range of consumers. The less expensive clothing line makes Whitney Eve clothing more accessible to those who aren’t celebrities but are dying to wear the clothing the celebrities are wearing.
In addition to expanding the menswear-inspired line, Whitney Eve was also expanding the womenswear line and adding clothing and footwear with a Vintage Thrift theme. The various and creative uses of color, pattern, texture and fabric have expanded the growing popularity of Port’s clothing line. Coming up in Spring 2012, she promises clothing additions that will be exciting and appealing to a continued broad range of consumers.
